.:A little about the Laurel Athletic Club...
The Laurel Athletic Club (LAC) was founded in 1919 as the Laura Street
Giants, a local group of sportsmen playing competitive games against other
local teams. A decade later, the LAC was formally incorporated on May 19th,
1929. The original purpose of the LAC was “the promotion of indoor and
outdoor sports and games”.
Over the generations, the purpose of the LAC has been expanded to include sponsorship of social and benevolent activities and encouraging sportsmanship and good fellowship among its members and the community. Today our involvement in the Norwalk community ranges from supporting kids involved in Little League and various organized team sports to young men and women participating in local softball and volleyball leagues to the adults involved in bocce and dart competitions. In addition, the LAC sponsors a wide variety of activities and events to raise money for worthwhile local charities.
The Club has grown in many ways over the past 77 years. The original group of thirteen members has multiplied to over 200, including many people who have been actively involved for over 25 years. The bi-monthly member meetings were originally held in a small cottage on Laura Street. After a series of moves to various local buildings, the LAC eventually purchased the building at its present location on North Street. With this expanded space and upgraded facility, we have opened our doors to the entire community, inviting members and non-members to join us for lunch and dinner and to use our hall for social activities.
Please join us at 14 North Avenue, Norwalk, CT as we continue the proud traditions of the Laurel Athletic Club. We look forward to seeing in the near future. Our bar and restaurant is open during the following times:
